Dr. Karine J. Igartua

Dr. Karine J. Igartua is the new Chief of the MUHC Psychiatry Department and Medical co-lead of the MUHC Mental Health Mission. Previously she was the Medical Co-Director of the McGill University Sexual Identity Centre and a member of the Emergency Psychiatry Service, which she lead from 2004 to 2014. She is also currently Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University.

Dr. Igartua was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Federation des Médecins specialists du Québec. She now serves as secretary to the Board, presides the governance committee and the philanthropy committee of the Foundation of the FMSQ.

As president of the Association des médecins psychiatres du Québec (AMPQ) from 2013-2021, she became a spokesperson for psychiatry, speaking nationally and internationally at scientific meetings as well as with politicians, educators and the media about issues such as mental health education in the school curriculum, the impact of technology and social media on youth mental health, the risks of cannabis in the context of its legalisation in Canada, and access to MAID for mental illness.

Dr. Howard Margolese

Dr. Howard Margolese

An Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University, Dr. Margolese is currently the Program Director of the McGill RCPSC Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology residency program. He is also the Director of the MUHC PEPP and Schizophrenia Spectrum Program (EPSSP) and Director of the Clinical Psychopharmacology Unit.

Dr Margolese enjoys teaching both residents and medical students and is the coordinator of the continuing care rotation for residents at the MUHC. Dr Margolese’s research interests include drug-induced movement disorders, first episode psychosis and pharmacotherapy of schizophrenia.
